Meet the Mar-Bel by SNX MLS-12

The MLS-12 Multiple Cut Laminate Slitter is a powerful and flexible solution for woodworking and laminate shops that need to process high volumes of material with speed and accuracy. Engineered using the proven Mar-Bel slitter design and manufactured in the USA by SNX Technologies, the MLS-12 features an open 12″ throat and a gang-style cutting system that allows operators to make up to 10 clean, consistent cuts in a single pass. Whether you’re cutting laminate strips for cabinetry, casegoods, countertops, or other surface applications, the MLS-12 dramatically increases throughput while maintaining cut quality that exceeds industry standards.

At the heart of the MLS-12 is Mar-Bel’s renowned three-blade die system, which punches out a precise 1/16″ kerf without producing dust or beveling. This die-based design ensures clean edges and significantly reduces blade wear compared to typical aluminum shear systems. With blade longevity extended and sharpening intervals minimized, the MLS-12 offers a low total cost of ownership while delivering consistently excellent results—even over long production runs.

What makes the MLS-12 truly unique is its customizable shaft and spacer system, which lets operators tailor their cutting configuration to fit their production needs. Different spacer setups can be installed across the top and bottom arbors to achieve the exact widths required. This modular approach allows the machine to be easily
adjusted for varying jobs, and operators can even pre-assemble multiple shaft configurations for faster changeovers between runs.

The open-ended 12″ throat provides additional flexibility, allowing material to be cut from larger sheet stock or inserted as pre-sized pieces for secondary drop cuts. This feature makes the MLS-12 ideal for custom shops that need to adapt quickly, as well as high-capacity facilities requiring tight production timelines. The machine’s self-feeding operation means that once material is aligned to the fence, it advances through the blades with minimal operator intervention—improving efficiency and reducing fatigue.

Like all SNX-manufactured equipment, the MLS-12 is built in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, and backed by a team committed to ongoing service and support. It is compatible with factory-sharpened Style A or Style B blade configurations, and blade sets can typically be sharpened 4–7 times depending on use and condition. With fast turnaround on replacement blades and sharpening services, SNX makes it easy to keep your MLS-12 operating at peak performance.

If your shop is ready to upgrade to a precision slitter that works as hard as you do, the Mar-Bel by SNX MLS-12 is your next essential machine. Designed for flexibility, built for volume, and made to last.

Blade System & Sharpening

At the heart of the MLS-12 is the legendary three-blade die system, a proven gang-cutting design that delivers multiple clean, 1/16" kerf cuts with minimal blade wear—even across high-volume production runs. Unlike traditional shearing systems that dull quickly and produce beveled or inconsistent cuts, this die-based configuration ensures crisp, square edges with exceptional dimensional accuracy across all cut widths.

The self-feeding operation combined with the die’s consistent pressure and alignment helps extend blade life significantly and maintain cut quality across a variety of laminate thicknesses—without the need for frequent adjustments or material-specific tweaks.

Over the decades, two primary blade configurations have been used in Mar-Bel-style slitters: Style A and Style B.
High-quality software development services by SNX Technologies. Innovative solutions for various business needs.
Style A blades were used in machines manufactured prior to 1973 and feature three 1/16" thick blades, with stiffening collars on the two bottom blades.
High-precision technical drawing of Style B component with detailed measurements for manufacturing.
Style B blades, used from mid-1973 onward, include two 1/8" thick bottom blades and a 1/16" top blade, eliminating the need for stiffeners.

While many older machines have been retrofitted to accept Style B blades, the two configurations are not interchangeable without modification. The MLS-12 is compatible with Style B blades by default.
SNX supports every machine we manufacture with professional factory sharpening services to maximize blade life and preserve edge quality. Each blade set is carefully inspected for proper tolerance, and only the minimum necessary grinding is performed—ensuring you get the most life from each set. Proper sharpening improves cut quality, reduces tool wear, and keeps your machine running at peak performance.

Before sending blades for sharpening, users should measure the outside diameter (OD) of the smallest blade:
If the OD is 5.395″ or greater, and there are no major nicks, the blade set is eligible for sharpening.
If the OD is below 5.395″, the blades should be replaced to maintain optimal cutting results.
