About the SLTR-700

SNX Technologies is proud to introduce the SLTR-700, our first internally manufactured slitter machine—built on the proven foundation of the original Mar-Bel design. Known throughout the laminate and woodworking industries for its longevity, precision, and reliability, the Mar-Bel slitter has served both global brands and small independent shops for over six decades. With the SLTR-700, SNX carries that legacy forward—manufacturing the machine in Sauk Rapids, MN with the same integrity and precision that have defined our edgebanding solutions.

After Mar-Bel ceased manufacturing due to the impact of Hurricane Ian in 2022, SNX worked closely with their team to continue supporting the machines still in operation—and to bring new units to market with their full support. The result is a slitter that honors Mar-Bel’s original U.S. Patent #3,496,812 design while incorporating SNX’s engineering expertise, domestic production capabilities, and ongoing customer support. With Mar-Bel’s blessing, SNX now produces this iconic machine under the name Mar-Bel by SNX.

The SLTR-700 is specifically designed to help woodworking shops efficiently prep their edgebanding material by cutting coils to custom heights. Using a robust three-blade die system, it produces an ultra-clean 1/16” kerf with minimal blade wear and virtually no dust—making it an ideal prep solution for both straight-line and contour edgebanding workflows.
With its self-feeding design and consistent cut tolerances, the SLTR-700 significantly reduces manual sawing, increases throughput, and delivers a smooth, straight edge every time.

Like its predecessor, the SLTR-700 is a versatile machine built to last. It can easily handle vertical and countertop grade laminates without adjustment, making it a valuable tool for a wide range of applications—from high-volume panel shops to custom furniture builders. And thanks to its durable die system, sharpening needs are minimal—providing excellent long-term value and reducing your total cost of ownership.

We’re officially debuting the SLTR-700 at AWFS Fair 2025, July 22–25 in Las Vegas. Visit SNX Technologies at Booth #1701 for a live demonstration and see how this compact, cost-effective solution fits into your shop’s production flow. Meet the team behind the machine, ask questions, and explore how the SLTR-700 pairs with our industry-leading contour edgebanders for a complete material handling solution.

Blade System & Sharpening

At the heart of the SLTR-700 is the legendary three-blade die system, a proven design that produces a clean, 1/16″ kerf with minimal blade wear. Unlike standard shearing devices, which dull over time and produce beveled or inconsistent cuts, this die-based system ensures smooth, square edges with excellent dimensional accuracy.

The self-feeding operation combined with the die’s precision helps extend blade life significantly and maintain cut quality across a variety of laminate thicknesses without frequent adjustments.

Over the decades, two primary blade configurations have been used in Mar-Bel-style slitters: Style A and Style B.
High-quality software development services by SNX Technologies. Innovative solutions for various business needs.
Style A blades were used in machines manufactured prior to 1973 and feature three 1/16" thick blades, with stiffening collars on the two bottom blades.
High-precision technical drawing of Style B component with detailed measurements for manufacturing.
Style B blades, used from mid-1973 onward, include two 1/8" thick bottom blades and a 1/16" top blade, eliminating the need for stiffeners. While some older machines have been retrofitted to accept Style B, the two styles are not interchangeable without modification. The SLTR-700 is compatible with Style B out of the box.
SNX supports customers with professional factory sharpening services to maximize blade life and maintain cut integrity. Each blade set is carefully inspected for tolerance, and only the minimum grinding necessary is performed to preserve longevity. Proper sharpening not only improves cut quality but also reduces overall tooling costs. Before sending blades in, users should verify the blade’s outer diameter (OD)—blades with an OD of 5.395″ or more and no major nicks are candidates for sharpening. Anything below that threshold should be replaced.

Blades can be sharpened 4–7 times.

FAQs

The SLTR-700 is a laminate slitter that cuts edgebanding material to custom widths. It uses a three-blade die system to create clean, precise strips that can be fed into contour or straight-line edgebanders.

Yes! SNX manufactures the SLTR-700 based on the original U.S. patented Mar-Bel design, with full permission to use the Mar-Bel name and support legacy customers.

The SLTR-700 comes set up for Style B blades (two 1/8″ bottom blades and one 1/16″ top blade), the standard since 1973. It is not compatible with Style A blades without retrofit.

With proper use, SLTR-700 blades can typically be sharpened 4 to 7 times. SNX offers in-house sharpening services and replacement blades to support long-term operation.

The SLTR-700 can cut a wide variety of laminate materials, including vertical grade, countertop grade, and specialty finishes—without needing adjustment for thickness.

The machine can cut as narrow as 1/2″ wide, depending on fence adjustment and material type.

No. The SLTR-700 uses a non-wear extractor blade to remove the 1/16″ kerf, resulting in a dust-free operation.

Absolutely. Once the fence is properly aligned, the machine is easy to run and does not require highly-skilled labor—making it perfect for freeing up other equipment.

Yes. SNX Technologies manufactures the SLTR-700 at its facility in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, continuing the Mar-Bel tradition with American-made quality and support.
