Getting a clean, durable bond on every part isn’t just about your glue. The right edge adhesives and supporting chemicals, used in the right order, are what separate a shop with consistent results from one fighting streaks, static, and rework all day. In simple terms: XE1 cleans and preps the panel before banding. XE2 keeps glue from sticking where it shouldn’t. XE3 controls static during the run. XE4 gives the finished edge its final clean shine. Using them out of order, or skipping one, is where a lot of avoidable rework starts.

XE1: All-Purpose Cleaning Agent

XE1 is the prep step. Applied at the machine in-feed, it removes glue residue, grease, fingerprints, and sawdust from the panel edge before banding starts, including the residue that tends to build up in corners from cross-gluing. A clean surface here is what lets your edge adhesives actually bond properly instead of fighting contamination. XE1 also works well by hand for routine machine cleaning and general shop surface cleanup.

XE2: Separating Agent

XE2 goes on next, sprayed on the top and bottom of the panel to keep hot glue from adhering where you don’t want it. This is what keeps squeeze-out from bonding to your machine surfaces and panel faces instead of just the edge itself. XE3: Anti-Static Agent

XE3 addresses a problem that’s easy to blame on the wrong thing: static buildup that causes chips and dust to cling to tooling and panels during the banding and trimming process. It removes static, keeps tooling cleaner during the run, and helps the glue joint cool and set properly. Shops that skip this step often assume they have a dust collection problem when static is actually the culprit.

XE4: Finishing Agent

XE4 is the final step, applied before the buffing station. It removes any leftover film or streaks from the earlier chemicals, helps cool the glued joint, and gives the trimmed, buffed edge its final shine. This is the difference between an edge that looks finished and one that looks like it just came off the machine.

Green Flags: Your Chemical Routine Is Dialed In

  • Panels come off the machine free of streaks, glue spatter, and static-clung chips
  • You’re not wiping down machine surfaces more than once per shift
  • Finished edges have consistent shine without extra manual buffing

Red Flags: Something’s Out of Sequence

  • Glue residue building up on machine surfaces or panel faces
  • Dust and chips clinging to tooling during trimming
  • Streaky or dull-looking finished edges after buffing
